Who will look at your home is a factor that most For Sale By Owners (FSBO) don't think about.  In general, there are 4 types of home buyers:

1. First Time Home Buyer
2. Relocation
3. Repeat Home Buyer
4. Investors

First time home buyers generally want the assistance of an experienced REALTOR because they have never purchased a home before and it is likely the biggest purchase they've ever made.  

Relocation buyers generally use realtors because they want a local expert to help them find their new home.  It's difficult to know what areas to look in and to stay abreast of local trends when living elsewhere.

Repeat home buyers generally use the agent that sold them their house.  In addition, repeat buyers generally use an agent to sell their home and thus use the same agent to buy their new home. 

This leaves investors.  Investors often use  REALTORS but they will also use other methods of finding a deal; such as reaching out to FSBO.  If you have tried to sell your home by yourself, you have likely gotten a lot of low offers because of this fact.
