There are a lot of stereotypes and assumptions when it comes to REALTORS and rightfully so! I believe that there have been a lot of cutthroat and sales heavy agents that have stained our reputation. I am happy to be working in an area where that is predominately not the case.
It may be a natural assumption that since REALTORs are being paid on commission that they would want to sell you the biggest house possible. Or, they'd want you to make a higher offer in a house that you are interested in. My personal philosophy is that I want to represent my clients in the way makes them want to come back to me should they ever need to buy or sell again. This means I work to fulfill my clients goals. This often means I help my clients buy houses that are much cheaper than what they can afford. I have even encouraged clients to look at cheaper housing options. Fulfilling my client's goals can also sometimes mean that I do encourage them to make a higher offer. If there is a newly listed house that will likely sell quickly, I will encourage them not to low ball if they truly want the house. At the end of the day, I am here to advise my client in decisions they need to make. I am interacting in the market on a day to day basis and can help guide you to a realistic route to buying a house.
